Lung screening is performed with the goal of finding lung cancer in its early stages, before it causes symptoms. Lung cancer found at earlier stages has more treatment options and better chances of being cured than lung cancer found at later stages.
Screening is performed with LDCT of the chest. Low dose CT's use up to 90% less radiation than traditional chest CT's. The radiation received from a low dose chest CT is roughly equivalent to 6 months of natural exposure to radiation from the environment.
Lung cancer screening can reduce death by at least 20% in smokers.

LungScreen Victoria has established a lung nodule registry to track patients and ensure timely follow-up. Through this program, we determine the follow up plan for treatment based on the lung nodule’s size, location and characteristics. Risk factors such as smoking or family history of cancer also are considered for the personalised plan.
Patients will continue to be seen by their regular primary care providers for all other medical care. The lung nodules will be followed up for a specific period based on medical guideline provided by Australia lung cancer screening advisory.
LungScreen Victoria will provide the recommendations and detailed follow up plans to primary care provider on a case by case basis, considering all the risk factors with personalised approach for each patient.

Our precision medicine approach to lung cancer treatment means we personalise treatment based on each tumor’s genetic and molecular characteristics. It all begins with an expert diagnosis, staging and molecular testing.
We use advanced imaging and minimally invasive procedures to accurately identify the type and stage of every lung cancer. But we don’t stop there.

At LungScreen Victoria we look at your health from every angle to diagnose lung cancer. Your physician will ask about your lifestyle, review your medical history and perform a physical exam, which may include bloodwork. We’ll also assess images from lung cancer screening program.
To further examine a suspicious area of your lung, your team may need to do more tests. They’ll discuss the details of every procedure with you, including any medicine to prevent pain (anesthesia) so you stay comfortable.
Your diagnostic tests may include any of the following tests: Chest X-ray, Staging CT scans, MRI, Positron emission tomography (PET) scan and PET/CT scan. At LungScreen Victoria we proudly provide all these tests, that may be required for multidisciplinary team for your treatment planning.
